OUR HERITAGE
Our family has been dedicated to the art of Persian rug-
making for over 100 years, with hand-knotted skills
lovingly passed down from my grandmother to my mother,
and now to me and my sisters.
My mother comes from the Minakhani family, whose
name is associated with one of the most celebrated and
enduring designs in Persian rug history. The Mina Khani
pattern, dating back to 17th-century Persia, is one of the
most iconic and enduring floral designs in Persian rug
artistry, admired for its timeless beauty for over 300 years.
The photograph captures my mother releasing a finished
rug from the loom, a meaningful moment that reflects
generations of family tradition, patience, and artistry—the
very foundation of Sakina Traditional Persian Rugs.
MEET THE FOUNDER
Ziba Bayat Gardner is the founder of Sakina Traditional
Persian Rugs. Born into a family of Persian rug-makers,
She brought together a team of master Persian artisans to
continue this centuries-old tradition, making authentic
Persian rugs legally available in the United States.
Driven by a passion for exceptional craftsmanship rather
than mass production, her vision is to create museum-
quality masterpieces that honor Persian heritage while
becoming heirlooms for generations to come.
THE VISION BEHIND EVERY DESIGN
Every Sakina rug begins with the imagination of our design team.
Inspired by centuries of Persian artistry, our designers carefully
create each composition with balance, symbolism, and timeless
elegance.
Every line, curve, and color is thoughtfully refined over several
months before the first knot is tied. More than creating patterns,
our designers create original works of art that become the
foundation of every one-of-a-kind Sakina masterpiece.
THE HANDS BEHIND EVERY MASTERPIECE
Our team is the heart of Sakina. For them, weaving is more than a profession—it is a lifelong passion passed down through generations. Every rug they create reflects not only extraordinary skill, but also their patience, dedication, and pride in preserving one of the world’s greatest artistic traditions.
Every Sakina rug begins long before the first knot is tied. Months are devoted to developing and refining each design before weaving begins.
Our finest 100% silk rugs are then hand-knotted by several master Persian artisans, requiring at least 18 months to complete. Some contain over one million hand-tied knots per square meter, reflecting an extraordinary level of precision, patience, and artistry.
Hand-knotting fine silk rugs is one of the most demanding forms of textile art and can only be mastered through years of dedicated practice. Many master Persian silk weavers begin learning the craft at a young age, developing the extraordinary precision, patience, and touch required to work with the finest silk. This rare skill is the result of a lifetime devoted to one of the world’s most intricate artistic traditions.
A NEW ERA OF PERSIAN ELEGANCE
We are proud to be the first to provide authentic, luxurious Persian rugs hand-knotted and created outside of Iran. Now available in the United States, our 100% handmade silk rugs blend centuries of Persian artistry with modern elegance.
More than a handcrafted rug, every Sakina masterpiece reflects the heart, passion, and devotion of the master artisans who create it. Every knot carries generations of knowledge, transforming each rug into a timeless work of art.
Every Sakina rug is accompanied by an NFT Certificate of Authenticity. Learn more about our NFT Certificates →
The Story Behind Sakina: Weaving Hope and Resilience
In the heart of every intricately woven Persian rug lies a story, a narrative that transcends threads and
colors. Our story begins with a name, a name that embodies the resilience of a life cut short Sakina.
Our brand is inspired by the memory of my sister, Sakina. Our mission is to bring hope and empowerment
to young girls in impoverished communities in her name. Every Persian rug we create tells a story of hope
and resilience. At Sakina, we provide sustainable livelihoods by creating handmade Persian rugs. Join us in
weaving a brighter future in her honor.
